Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 28, 2026
The short version: this public website and the device software collect almost nothing about you. The cloud service collects only what it needs to run your account — and we never sell your data. The details are below.
1. What this policy covers
One policy for everything we make:
- This public website — product info, downloads, documentation, and these legal pages. No account, no sign-in.
- The Tanso TV cloud service at app.tanso.tv — requires a user account.
- The Tanso TV device software — the local server app you install on your own computer to watch and record over-the-air TV ("the Device").
2. The device software
- Local-first. The Device runs on your own hardware. Your recordings are stored as files on your own computer, in a folder you choose. They are never uploaded to us.
- No account required. You can install and use the Device without creating any account or giving us any personal information.
- No telemetry. The Device doesn't track what you watch, what you record, or how you use it, and doesn't transmit usage data anywhere.
- Linking a cloud account (optional). If you choose to link the Device to a cloud account, [describe what syncs — e.g. recording schedules, settings — and what stays local]. Your recordings themselves stay on your hardware.
- Optional metadata sharing (future). You may one day be able to opt in to sharing recording metadata with the cloud service — e.g. to browse and manage your recordings remotely. This will always be opt-in; your recordings themselves stay on your hardware.
3. The cloud service
- Account information. When you sign up we collect [e.g. your email address] and store your password in hashed form. We use this to authenticate you and operate your account — nothing else.
- Service data. [Describe what the service stores for you — e.g. recording schedules, preferences, viewing state. Be specific.]
- What we don't do. We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it with advertisers, and we don't use your recordings or viewing activity for advertising.
- Service providers. The cloud service runs on third-party infrastructure (hosting and the like). Those providers process data only to operate the service, under their own security practices.
4. This website
- No tracking scripts. This site doesn't run third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- Server logs. Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may log basic technical information such as IP addresses and requested pages for security and operations. We don't use these logs to identify you.
- Downloads. When you download the app, our file host necessarily sees the request (as with any download on the internet). We don't tie downloads to identities.
- Comments. Comments on our documentation pages are stored in our own database (Cloudflare D1). What you post — your comment text and the name you provide, or "Anonymous" — is stored so it can be displayed after moderation. To fight spam we also store a salted, one-way hash of your IP address for rate-limiting; it can't be reversed into your address and we don't use it to identify you.
- Share buttons. The share buttons are plain links to X, Facebook, Reddit, and WhatsApp — they don't load third-party scripts or report back to us. If you click one, that platform's own privacy policy applies from that point on.
5. Donations
Donations are processed by PayPal. If you donate, PayPal handles your payment details under its own privacy policy — we never see your card numbers. We may see the name or email address associated with your donation.
6. Sharing of information
We don't sell personal information, period. We share it only:
- With service providers who need it to operate the cloud service, the website, or donations (hosting, file delivery, payment processing, commenting);
- If required by law, or to protect our rights and our users' safety;
- If the project is ever acquired — we'd notify you, and the same protections would carry over.
7. Retention and deletion
[How long is cloud account data kept, and how do users delete their account and data — e.g. a delete option in account settings, or an email request?] Device and website data isn't tied to identities, so there's nothing to delete on our end — uninstalling the Device removes its local data.
8. Your rights
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing info@tansodigital.com. We'll respond within a reasonable time.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and note it in the cloud service for account holders. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
