Install Tanso TV on macOS

Applies to macOS 12 Monterey and later · Tanso TV 1.0.0

What you'll need

• A Mac running macOS 12 or later
• An OTA antenna, positioned to receive local broadcast signals
• A compatible USB TV tuner (MyGica®/Geniatech® A681 or A681B) connected to the antenna and to your computer
• A few GB of free disk space for recordings (HD recordings run ~3–6 GB/hour)

Installation steps

1. Set up your tuner first. Connect the antenna to the tuner's antenna input, plug the tuner into a USB port on your Mac, and confirm via the tuner's own setup that it receives channels.
2. Download the macOS disk image from the downloads page (TansoTV-1.0.0-macos.dmg). Optionally verify the SHA-256 checksum listed there:

   shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/TansoTV-1.0.0-macos.dmg

3. Open the .dmg and drag Tanso TV to Applications. Double-click the downloaded file, then drag the Tanso TV icon onto the Applications folder shortcut in the window.
4. First launch via right-click. Because Tanso TV is distributed independently (not through the Mac App Store), macOS Gatekeeper may block the first launch. Instead of double-clicking, right-click (or Control-click) Tanso TV in Applications and choose Open, then confirm. You only need to do this once.
5. Let the setup wizard find your tuner. On first launch Tanso TV detects USB TV tuners connected to your Mac. Select yours when it appears.
6. Scan for channels. Run the channel scan and wait a few minutes — you'll then see every channel your antenna receives.
7. Choose a recording folder with plenty of space — an external drive works well.
8. Done. Start watching and recording. Take the tour in Using Tanso TV.

Uninstalling

Drag Tanso TV from Applications to the Trash. Your recordings stay in your recording folder unless you delete them.
